Welcome to Horrors in the Halls, a new Residence Life blog! I am starting this blog for a number of reasons: I have some brilliant stories, others have brilliant stories, we all need to vent, and well RL is horrific in the best of ways.
I am hoping to someday write a book of some of my stories, but this will be a great start in the mean time. I would love to hear some of your stories as well so please share.
I came into the field in the best of ways- I met one of my future RA's the summer before I began college and he gave me the 411 on Housing, my future RA, the building I was to live in and the whole college experience. As a 'floater' in high school, I wanted to start fresh and make a name for myself in college, and my first step was to fake confidence until it became real. Well, I succeeded. I took my RA class, scored super high on my interviews, and was told I would be hired. I opened my letter- I couldn't wait to find out which hall I was in. To my dismay, shock, surprise, etc. I was an alternate. I was crushed! I cried a bit, then decided I would find a house off campus with the gals from my floor.
The following week, I received a call from a Hall Director and I was offered an RA job! Woohoo! I think I accepted immediately, then backed out of the house with my friends. I found out (years later) why I was an alternate originally and as sad as I was, I had a good laugh. The HD's were "fighting" over me and they set my file aside for a while to look at other candidates and I got lost in the shuffle. Needless to say, it was for the best because I got placed on a brilliant staff with the BEST EVER supervisor. (He knows who he is).
From there I wanted nothing more than to be an RA forever. . .I will share more of my journey from RA to HD and all of the other positions between throughout my stories. I hope you enjoy the stories that I share and once again I want to hear your stories.
Until next time. . .
